CHAPTER THREE
Cynthia, if we leave secondary, will you remember me?I could remember asking her one morning when we were at the garden, watering it.
Yes, I cannot live without you!She said and I wiped my both eyes with the palms as I wanted to know whether I was still in Africa.
The host dropped, the grasses paused and my brained received thirty pints of blood but I was not deterred. For her to say that means that I am finished. No, I am not tired.
Once a girl tells you that she cannot live without you just know that she has told her family members about you but I was not ready for that. So, I changed the topic to give myself some breathing space because I was not understanding anything again.
Instead of the love thingy, we discussed the EFCC, the outer space and the possibility of Elon Musk recognizing us. That was when she opened up to me that she had being hiding somethings for me.
‘’What is that?‘’ I asked.
‘’I,,, I,, I,‘’ I was still expecting an answer when the bell rang and we all run to the assembly ground leaving only the gate man behind. He left his duty post to join us!
After much much, she told me that she was going to fly out after her secondary education. So, I went home devastated without waiting for my friends to see the route that I took.
That day, I recited the national anthem as I went home hoping that it was going to help me but it didn't. I paused to observed my surrounding, the bicyclist paused to look at me and my school uniform paused! That was when I realized that I had been sweating profusely. That moment, I turned and started going back to the school. I cannot kill myself because of a girl. After all, no be today we begin see Tom and Jerry. In fact, my mumu don do.
Chika was the first person to meet me while outside the school gate, I was coming back like a boss. As a potential Landlord, I show my swagger and continued moving on despite the fact that she warned me not to go in!That was how Principal sighted through his window and signaled me to come to his office directly. I knew I was in trouble but it didn't register on my mind on time.
When I got there, he left me and said that I should go home and prepare my speech for the next day as I was meant to explain to the whole students why I had to leave the school premises before school dismissal time. That was how God heard my cry.
The following day, I was standing before a set of 366 students to tender an apology. So, I picked up courage and started speaking. The Principal called me to his side and gave me a heavy knock on my head because he noted that I didn't mention Cynthia through my speech. How he managed to know.
‘’I was only trying to protect the girl so I could serve the punishment alone.‘’ I protested.
The principal said I should go!That was when he opened his mouth WAA and told the whole school that Cynthia and some other students were going abroad to study on scholarship based on a bi-lateral agreement signed by the school and a particular board in Indonesia. I froze.
Two weeks later, I returned to the school because the calibre of treatment I received from the principal was enough to keep me hospitalized for that long. That afternoon, he called me into his office, gave me the key to his personal library and told me to go there and study whenever I wanted.
To make the situation worse, Cynthia did not come to school for two days. So, I went to see her by myself. When I got there, fight ensued and I joined. Thank God, I was not with my books. So, I threw caution to the wind.
By the time Police arrived, two people had been injured. It's none of my business, I am not a Yahoo boy. So, I didn't follow them to the police station.
At that instance, I heard Cynthia calling my name! So, I followed the direction of her voice to locate her!It was as though I was dreaming, I finally knew her house.
We discussed for some minutes and she said that I should go and hide that her parents were coming.
