THE BITTER IN-LAW

Problem all started when he finished talking rubbish and then he asked me, ‘’Am I understood？‘’ I said no and everywhere stood still. This is a man that I have laboured for for a large percentage of my life. If I had remained in the village as a virgin, it would have been easy for me！Now, in the city, I have just few people and Formular is one of them.

This life is not easy but I did not learn it on time. It was when I started drowning that it dawn on me that if you allow people to take you for granted, then they would as well, turn you onto a workaholic person！Papa Chioma said he was going to settle me for the seven years apprenticeship that I have done for him by letting me to marry Chioma, his precious daughter but I was wondering where the money I would use and fend for the family would come from because I like the idea as Chioma is a pretty lady！

When my boss called me that morning, I was on my bed reading a magazine while facing the ceiling at the boys quarters. So, I ran to go and meet him but unknown to me, calamity awaits me as he had purposed to change me from a shop keeper to an in-law or a potential one！

HOW I TOASTED CHIOMA

Chioma and I have known each other for a long tome because she stayed in the village for the duration of her primary school education before joining her parents in the city and later, the father discussed with my uncles to let me come stay with him in the city and assist him in his business where we sold surveillance system, solar powered lights and even did installations and training for people, government officials and organizations！I was the lead tutor because I have a nice voice. In fact, my voice can drive away evil spirits. So, when I came to the city, my boss ordered one of the Assistant Managers to train me before he was transferred to another state.

My boss was not always around as he traveled on a regular basis. One day, Chioma came to the shop to fetch a letter that was delivered to her father through a courier service provider and I later got to know that the letter was from a real estate company called property world africa network and they were informing my boss of the emergence of a new estate in the heart of the city and it was intriguing as my boss never owed any bank as he was a heavy investor！

So, I told her my botanical name which was imiano and we bonded. Since then, she had always sneaked out to come and see me by 9pm each day by pretending that she was bringing me dinner. At times, I joined them at the dinning table at the main building though but I didn't know that my oga was watching every move I made through a camera that he mounted secretly.

At times, I hold meeting with myself to know what is happening because anything can happen. So, I summoned both my body and spirit for a meeting one morning and it worked. It was a friend of mine that thought me this strategy and his name is Onyedika. Even Victor was not helping matters because he was a boy in my street and I have warned Pato not to involved me in Partisan politics again！

Time went on and I promised to treat Chioma well because she's a good girl. Imagine a house where there was no house maid or nanny whatsoever and she took care of her younger ones and did the house chores with them while her mother was a teacher. Every month, they visited the motherless babies' homes, made donations to charity organizations and helped the men in the street and I thank God, I was not left behind. In fact, at times, my boss organizes a free medical outreach for the elderly ones！

To make matters worse, I was nowhere to be found as all the youths in the village had gathered to prepare for war with the Okaris people because I had gone to the city in search of greener pastures but I was with them in spirit because even though, I didn't like the violence involved, I am of the opinion that one should protect one's territory.

Problem started when I was called by Ezeguy to come and join in the fight because it had gotten to my father's compound. So, I left everything I was doing in the city and traveled to the village without telling my boss！

To fight had we come. So, every protocol had to be observed. Everything went fine and after four years, I went back to continue from where I had stopped but my boss told me that I had being replaced！So, I called Formular to come and help me plead with him and he came along with Ikechukwu！To make matters worse, he said that he was not going to give me any money as a form of settlement except if I agree to marry Chioma and in that case, he would lower the bride price for me and accept me as his son-in-law！‘’Am I understood？‘’ he asked after making a resounding speech.

‘’No sir, we are not together on this. In fact, I sense redliness.‘’ I said and he was shocked and at once, Formular brought out his gold-plated Iphone and started to snap us！When I asked him why, he said that my boss and I were already looking and sounding like long time in-laws. Hence, his decision to officiate the outcome.
