CHAPTER TWO
‘’Ah, bros, you can run oo.‘’ I heard a voice telling me as we alighted from the vehicle at Oshoku junction which was the neatest junction close to where we were living. It was Priscillia's voice, no doubt. Everybody knows her voice but it is unique. I couldn't help but hide my pride and reply her in an Igbo language parlance that says, ‘’A na-agwa Ochi nti na agha E su?‘’ Which by translation means, ‘’Do they used to tell a deaf person that war has started?‘’ At least, the gunshot sounds should do the relevant announcement, if there was need for that.
Ezeguy held my hand steadily as we peddled through the mud waters that filled the street that day as if we were boats. Thanks to Buhari's government. At least, we were buying garri with all the money in our pockets!
Due to the upheaval in school, the Campus radio did not air as a major terminal had been touched and we later heard that the school authority had reported to the commnunity leaders and a manhunt had been declared for the principal actors in the crime scenes. Formular was the one who called me after two days and said that we should return to school. That all was well. So, I beckoned on Ezeguy and he stood up but refused to believe it. That day, I knew that Ezeguy was afraid and went to school for another three days!I met Formular at our usual place and we strategised on how to get ride of miscreants in the school as he believed that those who attracted those hurtful souls into the school arena were in the school hostels. So, we mapped out plans but we couldn't do anything without being modest. That Friday, Formular thought me how to deliver keynote speeches, quote successful people in the society and comport myself well before an audience!
Ezeguy was at home. So, I made a video of us speaking and sent to him on Whatsapp and he was motivated.
Chinecherem came around and joined us for researsals the following day but you know women nah, she was soon or later on her way to fetch something from Konga regional office which she claimed was a parcel sent to her by an uncle. Uncle or no uncle, it was none of our business. So, we continued with our rehearsals when she left.
‘’Formular, I don't think this thing will work!‘’ I said trying to let him know how difficult it was.
‘’You don't need to think, just believe. In fact, if what you are thinking is not good then stop thinking.‘’ He said and at that point, I knew that there was no way backward!!!
To further boost my morale, Formular introduced me to his group of friends with whom he practised speaking and I was energized. I was in the midst of men and women of different calibre and they held an annual summit which has in attendance men and women, distinguished in various fields, comin together from all walks of life and I was inspired.
Formular was always by my side when I am talking about what is good but when I make mention of what is bad, he would say that I should put that out of my vocabulary. That was how I learnt to choose my words wisely.
Everyday, I was on Wikipedia learning about rich men and how to quote them and Ezeguy was just laughing at me but when the benefits started coming in, he was wowed.
I once told a friend that I would build a social media app like pinterest with the sum of N150, 000.00 and he doubted me. So, I told him to watch me do it. Come on, motivation is all I need in order to stay afloat. I could tell a short story to inspire people and I could run miles just to say hi to a Stranger! All these we did in order to imbibe the need for unity in us. As Formular thought me, I followed.
